What is autism?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects how a person experiences social interactions, communicates, and engages with the world around them. Individuals with autism may have difficulty understanding social cues, prefer routines, or engage in focused interests and repetitive behaviors. Because it is a spectrum, each person’s strengths and challenges look different.
Why is a diagnosis important?
A diagnosis is important because it provides a clear explanation for behaviors that might otherwise be misunderstood and helps guide access to specialized supports. With early and individualized interventions — such as speech therapy, social skills training, and sensory supports — people on the autism spectrum can build meaningful connections, develop greater independence, and thrive in their own unique ways.
